Dark Mantle Material - Copernicus H

The areas of Sinus Aestuum and Mare Vaporum show a lot deposits of
the so called Dark Mantle Material. The dark pathes are assumed to be
fine volcanic ashes from explosive eruptions (Dr.Charles A.Wood, The
Modern Moon, p60). The dark material seems to be generally buried under
lighter lava material and ejecta but some smaller impacts around Copernicus
have ecavated the buried material to the surface. Looking at Copernicus
H, preferably at high sun angle, shows a dark ash halo around the crater.
The same seems to apply to nearby Gay-Lussac N.
